Birch Trees

A more detailed description of the large Betula family of some of the most beautiful garden trees

Betula Ermanii - Birch
Birch

Description

A graceful, vigorous, large tree with bright green, heart-shaped veined leaves. The bark is creamy white and pinkish, fawning when peeling. The trees often become a bright yellow colour in autumn. Birch Trees are grown for their graceful habit, lightness of colour and often for their decorative bark, in some cases startlingly white, and in many cases attractively peeling. The flowers consist of male and female catkins, both on the same tree. They succeed in damp or dry soils, but do not reach maximum size in chalky habitats.
